Madeline è un'adolescente che è praticamente prigioniera della propria casa da 17 anni in quanto affetta da una malattia rara che ha ridotto ai minimi termini le sue difese immunitarie. Un giorno un camion dei traslochi giunge nella sua via e Madeline, dalla finestra chiusa, vede per la prima volta Olly, il nuovo vicino. I loro sguardi si incrociano.
