Descrizione:
Billy Taggart è un ex poliziotto di Brooklyn, convertito per necessità a detective privato. Quando il sindaco Hostetler lo ingaggia, in piena campagna elettorale, per indagare sulla moglie che sospetta di adulterio, Billy s'infila senza accorgersene in una trappola che lo porterà a fare i conti con le lusinghe e i ricatti del potere, ma anche con il proprio passato e con i debiti rimasti in sospeso.
