Miles Logan (Martin Lawrence) è un ladro professionista. Durante una rapina viene però tradito da Deacon (Peter Greene) ed è costretto a fuggire e a nascondere un diamante appena rubato in un condotto d'aria di un edificio in costruzione. Fa appena in tempo a compiere tale operazione e viene arrestato. Scontati i due anni di prigione, Miles è pronto a recuperare la sua refurtiva, ma scopre, con sua amara sorpresa, che l'edificio in costruzione è diventato il 37° distretto di polizia.
