Grazie a filmati integrali ritrovati del concerto di Dalla al Village Gate di New York del 1986, il documentario racconta la nascita di uno dei suoi album più famosi DallAmeriCaruso. Inoltre seguiamo il viaggio che il cantautore ha fatto tra Napoli e Sorrento mentre ci racconta la storia di Caruso, il brano all'origine dell’intero album. Il grande amore che aveva Lucio Dalla per quelle terre che non hanno mai smesso di ispirare la sua musica, viene raccontato insieme ai pensieri e agli oggetti che hanno accompagnato i viaggi di quei giorni. La narrazione è arricchita da interviste e testimonianze di chi era con lui, chi lo conosceva bene o lo ha anche solo incrociato.
