Descrizione:
Nella parabola della streghetta dagli umili abiti rivive il consueto viaggio iniziatico di Miyazaki, spesso condotto tra i cieli (in precedenza ne Il castello nel cielo, mentre Porco rosso innalzerà ai massimi livelli il feeling eroico con l'aria) e spesso con una ragazzina come protagonista. Kiki raggiunge la fatidica età di passaggio, quella dei quattordici anni, per abbandonare la dimora natia e scoprire la vecchia Europa, ancora una volta coacervo ideale di stilemi miyazakiani. Modellata su Stoccolma e Lisbona, la città in cui Kiki approda a cavallo della sua scopa volante è il luogo dello smarrimento e dell'emancipazione, in cui l'eroina è da un lato costretta ben presto a una necessaria e dura introspezione, ma può anche sentirsi accettata nonostante la sua diversità; il luogo in cui, attraverso il duro lavoro, conquistare la propria matura autonomia.
