Per soldi e per vendicare la morte di un ex collega, accetta di sanzionare i responsabili dell'uccisione. Ne elimina due. Deve identificare il terzo durante un'ascensione alla parete Nord dell'Eiger (Alpi svizzere). 4° film di C. Eastwood regista alle prese con uno sgangherato thriller spionistico di nessun interesse che, però, oltre a solleticare il suo esibizionismo atletico, gli permette di filmare in Panavision e in modi insoliti i picchi rocciosi della Monument Valley e di trasformare una scalata in un emozionante esercizio di suspense.
