Descrizione:
Stati Uniti, fine XIX secolo. Lo sceriffo Mackenna incontra un vecchio indiano moribondo, nella sua bisaccia trova una mappa incisa su cuoio con le indicazioni per raggiungere un ricco giacimento d'oro, una vena d'oro colossale nascosta secondo una antica leggenda indiana in un canyon inaccessibile. Morto l'indiano, Mackenna distrugge la mappa, convinto che si tratti solo di fantasie, dopo essere scampato alla vendetta dello stregone apache custode del segreto, il quale lo credeva interessato all'oro. Ma una banda di malviventi capeggiata dal bandito messicano Colorado, a cui si aggiunge Ben Baker con i suoi uomini, sono convinti del contrario. Mackenna, che ha impresso in mente le indicazioni della mappa, viene imprigionato e disarmato ed è costretto a condurli al canyon segreto. Inizia così un'avvincente caccia al tesoro con immancabili colpi di scena.
