Estate 1961. Emil lavora come comparsa allo Studio Babelsberg quando si innamora perdutamente della ballerina francese Milou. I due sono fatti l'uno per l'altra ma vengono separati dalla chiusura dei confini del 13 agosto 1961. Riunirsi sembra a prima vista impossibile finché Emil non forgia un piano piuttosto audace.
