Descrizione:
John Q. Archibald e' un operaio che ha continui problemi di soldi. Quando suo figlio Michael di nove anni ha un arresto cardiaco durante una partita di baseball, scopre che per salvarlo deve mettere insieme circa 250.000 dollari. L'assicurazione privata, a sua insaputa, ha smesso di coprire operazioni tanto costose. Disperato vende i mobili di casa, chiede prestiti agli amici e fa di tutto per salvare il suo bambino. Il giorno che l'ospedale minaccia di sbattere fuori Michael, John Q. entra armato nel pronto soccorso e prende degli ostaggi fino a quando il figlio non avra' un cuore nuovo. La polizia, pero', decide di eliminarlo.
